Ashley Addiction Treatment Center in Harford County, Maryland, is expanding its research efforts to a new facility called the Addiction Recovery Research Center. The facility, which provides inpatient care, outpatient care and extended care, also focuses on research that yields data to guide patient care. The new facility will bring together researchers, clinicians, academic collaborators and patients. It is also testing new treatments to curb substance use, including a study involving GLP-1s, a class of medications originally prescribed for weight loss. The center will partner with Johns Hopkins for a clinical trial that pairs GLP1s with naltrexone, an established treatment for alcohol use disorder, to determine if the combination is effective at reducing cravings to drink.
