CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities were still searching for a jet skier in Lake St. Clair who went missing Thursday night while riding with a friend.

A 19-year-old from New Baltimore was rescued from the water in the lake’s Anchor Bay the evening of Thursday, March 28. Chesterfield Township police say the teen went out on the water with a friend, 21-year-old Jonathan Kloss, who was still missing as of Friday morning.

Kloss and the teen reportedly took two jet skis onto the lake from a boat launch at Brandenburg Park in Chesterfield Township. The pair was expected to return by 7 p.m., but never showed, police said.

The Coast Guard told Local 4 that they received a call around 8:15 p.m. Thursday and began searching from a boat and a helicopter. At some point, the two jet skis were found “capsized and floating” in the lake’s Anchor Bay near Brandenburg Park.

The 19-year-old was found in the water and was rescued. The teen was initially unresponsive, according to the Coast Guard. He was taken to a local hospital. There was no update on his condition as of Friday morning.

Authorities were still searching for Kloss, who police said was missing since 8:45 p.m. on Thursday. It was believed that Kloss was not wearing a life jacket.

Kloss was described only as a 21-year-old white man from Chesterfield Township. Anyone who knows where Kloss is should call Chesterfield Township police at 586-949-2322.

Police have not yet provided any details about why the jet skis had capsized Thursday.
