Harford Co. Students Turn Soggy School Grounds Into Future Forest
Fourth graders and Green Team members at Dublin Elementary School helped plant about 25 trees as part of a larger reforestation project. The Harford County Department of Public Works has transformed a portion of Dublin Elementary School's property into a forest, using students and members of the school's Green Team to plant trees. The project was part of a reforestation plan to address a problem that left a portion the school grounds wet and marshy, making it difficult to use. Bry's Lawn Care and Landscaping completed the majority of the work by planting approximately 25 trees. Students were given a cluster of approximately 25 tree species and given an opportunity to learn about the trees' environmental significance and their role in the environment. The school has recently earned Maryland Green School certification and plans to create a mowed pathway through part of the forest as the trees mature.
