Central Heights’ Rodriguez on time in MLB: ‘It’s a dream come true’

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher and former Central Heights Blue Devil Grayson Rodriguez said he did not realize how well he was pitching toward a perfect game on Sunday. Former Central Heights Blue Devil, Grayson Rodriguez, is currently fifth in the American League with seven wins on the season for the Baltimore Orioles. Rodriguez credits his success to his teammates and his ability to keep runs off the board. He made his MLB debut with the Orioles on April 5, 2023, against the Texas Rangers and has been in the MLB for two seasons. Despite a recent injury, Rodriguez insists it was more of a precautionary measure due to early season shoulder inflammation. He has expressed his gratitude for his success and hopes to make people aware of his potential as a professional baseball player.

BALTIMORE (KTRE) - Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher and former Central Heights Blue Devil Grayson Rodriguez said he did not realize how well he was pitching toward a perfect game on Sunday.

“I didn’t really realize it until the sixth inning,” said Rodriguez. “Then I went 3-2 on the first batter of the inning and I was like dang, I don’t think anybody’s been on first base today.”

Rodriguez is currently fifth in the American League with seven wins on the season and even though he has to keep runs off the board, he attributes his success to his teammates.

“Our lineup is pretty elite.” he said. “There’s a lot of big bats that get to swing it every night and it’s a lot of fun to watch it happen.”

Rodriguez went on the Injured List at the end of April with right shoulder inflammation, but says it was more of a precaution.

“It’s early in the season, so when I was a little bit more sore than normal,” Rodriguez said. “There’s really no reason to risk anything, especially this early.”

Rodriguez made his big league debut with the Orioles on April 5, 2023, in Arlington against the Texas Rangers. He pitched five innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out five.

“A lot of my friends and family could be there. You know the drive is short,” said Rodriguez. “It was a dream come true for sure.”

Rodriguez has been in the MLB for two seasons.

“It’s been a lot of fun. I really can’t even begin to describe it,” he said. “It’s just a dream come true.”

Rodriguez understands that kids from Nacogdoches may be looking up to him as a MLB player and he cherishes that role.

“I think my number one goal is to just make sure that people realize that you can make it,” said Rodriguez.
