Maryland, feds sign partnership for offshore wind energy projects

Maryland's climate change goal to develop a robust offshore wind industry is receiving support from the Biden administration. The United States and Maryland have signed a partnership with the state of Maryland for offshore wind energy projects. The partnership aims to coordinate the development of Offshore WIND in Maryland, a key part of the state's environmental progress. The US WIND project, set to build 22 TURBINES 20 miles off the coast of OCEAN CITY, will provide enough electricity to power 92,000 homes and could receive final approval this fall. The project is expected to support 1300 jobs and potentially lower energy prices for residents in the region. The collaboration is also expected to significantly impact the state’s offshore wind industry. The agreement also includes a mandatory review of the BIDEN-HARRIS ADMINISTRation’S environmental impact assessment.

THE PARTNERSHIP IS MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL. THE GOVERNOR AND PRESIDENT HAVE AMBITIOUS GREEN ENERGY GOALS, AND THEY BOTH VIEW OFFSHORE WIND AS A CORNERSTONE OF THAT EFFORT. OFFSHORE WIND TURBINES ARE THE UNOFFICIAL GUIDEPOSTS OF MARYLAND’S PATH TOWARD A CLEAN ENERGY FUTURE. THE PRIORITY COMES AT A TIME WHEN THE INDUSTRY IS ENTERING AN UNCERTAIN PHASE. HEADWINDS OF SUPPLY CHAIN ISSUES AND HIGH INTEREST RATES FORCED ORSTED TO WITHDRAW ITS TWO WIND FARM PLANS OFF THE COAST OF MARYLAND, BUT US WIND REMAINS COMMITTED. IT WILL BUILD 22 TURBINES 20 MILES OFF THE COAST OF OCEAN CITY, GENERATING ENOUGH ELECTRICITY TO POWER 92,000 HOMES. ACCORDING TO FEDERAL OFFICIALS, THE MA WIND PROJECT IS MOVING FORWARD. THE COMPANY COULD GET FINAL FEDERAL APPROVAL THIS FALL. YES, IT IS ON SCHEDULE. WE ARE ON TRACK AND GOING THROUGH AN EFFICIENT YET DILIGENT REVIEW TO MAKE SURE THAT WE’RE FULLY ANALYZING THE IMPACTS THE BIDEN-HARRIS ADMINISTRATION, IN RECOGNITION OF MARYLAND’S CLEAN ENERGY EFFORTS, SIGNED A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING FRIDAY. IT IS A PARTNERSHIP TO COORDINATE DEVELOPMENT OF OFFSHORE WIND IN MARYLAND. AND SO MARYLAND SERIOUS ABOUT OFFSHORE WIND BECAUSE WE’RE SERIOUS ABOUT ACTUALLY ACHIEVING OUR GOALS, NOT JUST BECAUSE OF WHAT IT MEANS FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, BUT ALSO IMPORTANTLY FOR WHAT IT MEANS FOR OUR ECONOMY. THE U.S. WIND PROJECT IS EXPECTED TO SUPPORT 1300 JOBS. THE COMPANY WILL ALSO BE MAKING WIND TURBINE PARTS AT TRADEPOINT ATLANTIC. THIS MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE THIS IS THE PLAY THAT WE’RE GOING TO RUN THE MOU SPELLS OUT HOW THE FEDERAL PARTNERSHIP WILL WORK TO PLAN FOR AND TO TAKE ACTION TO ENHANCE THE STATE’S OFFSHORE WIND INDUSTRY. IT IS ALSO A HUGE OPPORTUNITY TO PUT PEOPLE TO WORK IN THE TRANSITION TO A CLEAN ENERGY ECONOMY. EVENTUALLY, AND ULTIMATELY LOWERING ENERGY PRICES FOR PEOPLE IN MARYLAND IN THIS REGION AND ACROSS THE COUNTRY. THAT’S THE PROMISE OF RENEWABLE ENERGY. WE KNOW THERE’S NO TIME TO WASTE IN MAKING BOLD INVESTMENTS TO COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE. THE MOU ALSO CREATES A TASK FORCE TO LOOK FOR WAYS TO EXPAND THE INDUSTRY. IT COMES DAYS AFTER THE GOVERNOR SIGNED AN EXECUTIVE ORDER PUSHING HIS AMBITIOUS GREEN ENERGY AGENDA. REPORTING FROM CITY DOCK IN
