Teen Driver Fleeing Police Hits 2 Vehicles, Multiple People Hurt: Authorities

Mejia Medina, has been charged with eluding police and racing on Interstate 395 in Fairfax County, Virginia, causing multiple injuries after crashing into multiple vehicles while fleeing Virginia State Police. The vehicles were attempting to race on the southbound interstate, but when authorities tried to stop them, they refused. Medina's Toyota Camry collided with two other southbound vehicles, causing the other to crash near Edsall Road, while the Camry continued to run for a short distance before coming to a stop. Both Medina and a passenger were taken to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries, while victims in the other vehicles were also treated for non-life-threatening conditions.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Multiple people were injured after a teen driver from Maryland who had been attempting to race on Interstate 395 crashed into multiple vehicles while fleeing Virginia State Police, authorities said.

Shortly after midnight Sunday, troopers were alerted to two vehicles trying to race on the southbound interstate in Fairfax County, according to police. Authorities tried to stop the vehicles but they refused, with one exiting at Edsall Road and the second — a Toyota Camry driven by 19-year-old Silver Spring resident Kennedy W. Mejia Medina — fleeing south on I-395 with police in pursuit, law enforcement said. Mejia Medina tried to drive between two other southbound vehicles and collided with both, causing the two to crash near Edsall Road while the Camry continued for a short distance before coming to a stop, according to police.

Mejia Medina and a passenger were taken to a hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening and Mejia Medina was charged with eluding police, racing resulting in an injury, property damage and taillight violations, authorities said. Victims in the other vehicles were brought to a hospital for injuries that were also not life-threatening, according to police.
