The collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore has made a lot of people concerned about their safety. While rescue efforts are underway, lives were lost during the tragedy. It brings to question what people can do to ensure their safety while driving over a bridge in case it collapses. Lauryn Jeter–who goes by @jeterky on TikTok–posted an insightful video about an important tip for people in cars while traveling across bridges. The video has gone viral, garnering nearly 3 million views and 5,593 comments on the platform.

She states, "I am not the only one who, as a child, was told you have to roll down all the windows in your car every time you drove across a bridge." Jeter is perfectly sure that many others have also received the same advice when driving over bridges from a very young age. The woman shares how she first heard about this life-saving tip when visiting a few family friends at a lake house in Maine. Every time she drove over the bridge, they would insist that all of the windows in the car be rolled down in case something happened and the bridge collapsed.

Keeping the windows open would prevent people from getting trapped in the car from the immense water pressure and swim out to safety through the open windows. Over the years, Jeter thought it was a "borderline irrational thing" to do while driving a car across a bridge and did not really give it too much importance. She explains, "Like, you don't have to roll all the windows down in your car every time you go across the bridge."

However, the sudden collapse of the bridge forced her to realize rolling the windows may not exactly be irrational at all. She comments on how the bridge broke down like "Legos" into the river. Jeter is utterly confused about who is accountable for such a tragedy.

Jeter clarifies that she is not into conspiracy theories but does not think the bridge's collapse was intentional. The video concluded with the woman extending her prayers to all of the people affected by the accident. It seemed like many people had similar concerns about driving over bridges, especially after the Baltimore incident, and they shared their thoughts about it in the comments section.

@karenmariex3 commented, "It's one of my BIGGEST fears. After the Mississippi bridge collapse in 2007, I have a serious fear of driving over bridges." @candy_wilkins expressed, "My youngest has a fear of bridges and asks for windows to be rolled down every time we cross them. She's 8. I didn't realize this was a thing." @nataliegar06 shared, "I have one of those little window hammers for this reason." @ananijosie shared, "Doing this and also buying 4 life jackets for my car like I am a ship now."
