The study also estimated that about 1 in 4 ex-NFL players had dementia during their lifetime. The findings follow a study in August that found at least 1 in four former NFLers who died between 2016 and 2021 may have CTE. The research was conducted by Yorghos Tripodis, a professor of biostatistics at Boston University and author of the paper. The NFL responded by saying it is committed to making the game of football safer and implementing strategies to reduce concussions and head impacts. The researchers also estimated 27.2% of former players had Alzheimer's during their life, a figure they believe may underestimate its prevalence.
