Baltimore City is expanding its free sewage cleanup program, which provides free professional cleanup and disinfection services for sewage backups in basements. The program will now cover qualifying backups that occur during dry weather, which are determined to be on the city-owned side of the sewer lateral. Previously, the program previously covered only qualifying backups associated with wet weather. The expansion follows years of calls from environmental groups for such assistance. The city will continue its expedited reimbursement program, providing eligible residents with up to $5,000 per household for qualifying cleanup and sanitary expenses they have already paid.
