BALTIMORE, Md.- Kenna Kaut tied her season and career high with eight goals as the Bryant women's lacrosse team held off UMBC 13-12 in a thriller on Saturday in Baltimore. The Bulldogs are now 2-1 in America East play after back-to-back wins over the Retrievers and UMass Lowell.

Kaut scored four in the fourth quarter as Bryant outlasted UMBC by one in the final frame. Her eight goals led all players, while Skylar Simmonds and Emily Oliver chipped in five points apiece. Margaret Adams also had a big day in the draw circle, winning a career high eight draw controls.

Q1: Scoring got off to a slow start, as each team netted just one goal apiece in the opening eight minutes of the game. Kaut helped break the drought, scoring her second and third goals before the 4:30 mark to give the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead. The two teams traded goals to end the first, with Simmonds and Oliver each adding one to put Bryant up 5-4 after one.

Q2: The Bulldogs were held off the board early in the second, taking nearly seven minutes before Chamberlaine Bell found Lily Auger to put Bryant up 6-5. UMBC responded to tie it again at six before goals from Kaut and Oliver sent the Bulldogs into the break up two.

Q3: Both defenses were locked in in the third, combining to allow just six shots on goal and two scores. Both of those goals came courtesy of the Retrievers to tie the score at eight heading into the final quarter.

Q4: The Bulldogs broke an 18-minute scoring drought when Bell found Kaut for a goal to open up the fourth. Bryant would score two more quick goals to go up by three in the first five minutes of the quarter before UMBC scored two to cut the lead to one. Kaut quickly responded off the second goal, scooping up the draw and taking it down field by herself for goal #7.

She scored another to put Bryant up 13-10, but UMBC cut the lead back to one with two in a row over the final 1:34. The Retrievers had the ball again for the final possession, but Bryant's defensive pressure kept them from getting off a potential game-tying shot.

• Kaut's eight goals tied a season and career high, on February 25 in a win over Lafayette. She is now up to 46 goals on the season and 112 for her career.

• Oliver and Simmonds each finished with five points on two goals and three assists. For Oliver, it is her third straight five-point game and eighth overall this season.

• Margaret Adams doubled her career high in draw controls, finishing with a game high eight.

• Ashlyn Watkins set a rookie career high with ten saves. She has now won each of her first two starts in the cage.

• The Bulldogs have now won back-to-back games for the third different time this season.

What's next: Bryant has the midweek off before returning home to take on Binghamton next Saturday for Senior Day. Game time is set for 12:00 pm.
