CDC's deputy director resigns after being hired in April

Shufford, who also served as chief medical officer, will spend her last day on Nov. 12. In the interim, Satish Pillai will serve as acting CDC chief medical and deputy director. Dr. Erica Schwartz, the CDC’�s director, expressed gratitude for Shufords' leadership and commitment to public health. Shouford, who is board-certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases, served as Texas’ chief state epidemiologist before becoming commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services.
