ADL Art Show Comes to Baltimore
For many Jewish artists, the last few years have not been easy. And at the ADL, they’re looking to find hard proof of that. The Anti-Secemitism League (ADL) has launched a new research program to document how Jewish and Israeli voices are being pushed out of American culture. The ADL found that by analyzing 40 museums across the country, not one included Jewish identity in its diversity and inclusion commitments. Kay Ericson, director of development at ADL’s Washington, D.C., regional field office, found 65 cases of documented Jewish or Israeli artists being “canceled” or harassed, and authors were told to remove Hebrew words or Jewish character names from their manuscripts in order to secure a publishing deal. The organization hosted a show called HINENI at the Gordon Center for Performing Arts in Baltimore last week to highlight Jewish and Israel artists and discuss what can be done to stop antisemitism in the arts.
