Neighbors fear proposed 26-home development could cause well water systems to fail
"If it doesn't hurt our neighborhood, then we welcome neighbors, but if it hurts our neighborhood, we really hope that the county and the state will put some restraints on it," Susan Euteneuer said. Neighbors in western Howard County, Maryland, have raised concerns about a proposed high-density development along Triadelphia Road that could cause well water systems to fail. Elm Street Development plans to build 26 multi-level, age-restricted homes and a community center on the Twigg property. The development estimates 4,050 gallons of water per day, enough for about 150 gallons for one person in each home, an estimate established by the Maryland Department of the Environment. Neighbors fear that a failed well on the property could have a cascading effect on their well water system. The county approved the developer's conditional use over the summer, but homeowners have raised money to appeal it.
