Bomb Cyclone To Hit MD With 55 MPH Winds, Arctic Cold

A drastic temperature fluctuation, severe winds, and chance of snow could make for a challenging week in the Baltimore-DC region. A wind advisory is in effect for most of the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay, Tidal Potomac River, and I-95 corridor, through central Maryland, northern Virginia, and District of Columbia. The storm is expected to bring strong winds, with gusts up to 55 mph and sustained winds of 25 miles per hour, making it feel significantly colder at times. The wind will cause a sudden drop in air pressure, with temperatures expected to rise to 55 by noon and drop to mid-20s by evening. The strongest winds will occur from noon (west) through 5 or 6 p.m., with the strongest activity expected to occur from about noon (western) through the night. The National Weather Service predicts a slight chance of snow after 1 a.m. on New Year's Day there is a chance of light rain and/or snow showers.
